Hi all Nascar nuts! Thanks for the invite. I look forward to talking with you all. It looks like I'm in with some pretty good company.

Hi Jen. You will find some of the best people you will ever meet in the NASCAR community right here. Welcome to our little home on the web. Very nice to have you here. Feel free to look around and add your comments to any of the ongoing discussions or even create your own topics.
| Nascar Nuts Banner Now Available
From: Nick_Nascar Posted: July 10, 1999 I just posted a banner that can be used to link people back to our community
here. You will find it in the files section. Thanks to all of our great
members.

Nick - I grabbed the banner, (nice job by the way), but what URL should I use to link to this site. Seems like these Excite communities have 2 different pages - 1 for guests, and 1 for the members. Should I go grab the URL from working through the directory - or just use the one from "My Communities"?ched
| Members, the heat, and tempers
From: cdavis57 Posted: July 17, 1999 I just wanted to take a moment to voice a thought here. Perhaps I am a bit paranoid, but I wanted to address the topic of 'disagreement', and 'tempers'. As we head into the heat of the summer, often tempers tend to flair up a little quicker than usual. While I have never seen any sign of it here at NASCAR Nuts, I have seen some really ugly things at other sites. Many of us will often disagree about an incident on the track, or who the best driver is - that's what this sport is all about. I just wanted to leave myself a note, that we are all great fans of a great sport here - everyone has their own opinon and they should be respected for that - and a reminder that it is very easy to sit behind a keyboard and type just about anything - but there are real people on the other end of this Internet thing, and it doesn't take a whole lot to hurt someone's feelings. This whole "Excite Communities" thing is very new technology (less than 1 year old). I know we all get upset when we try to post a picture, or a comment - and all we get back is some error message. They (Excite) are getting way more traffic than they ever dreamed of - and they work hard at giving us a great place to share our thoughts and memories. Having been on the receiving end of "My computer won't work" calls, I can relate to what the Excite support folks are going through right now. A word spoken (or typed) in anger can never be taken back - it may be forgiven, but it is never forgotten. In closing - like the old commercial said "I love you man!" (but NO - you can't have my Bud Light). This message has been a pre-emtive strike against anger. We now return you to your reguarly scheduled program. Ched |
Nick_Nascar on July 18, 1999 1 of 2
Thanks Ched for the above words. As you said, we have not run into that problem here at Nascar Nuts, and hopefully we won't. But just a word to those who may want to test the waters. This site was created by my good friend and I so that we and all of our new friends could get together and enjoy the sport we all love even more. Bashing of other members for their honest opinions will NOT be tolerated. As well as foul language. We can all get hot tempered at times, but we must us some control as well.
Any violators will first be warned by me and then if their outrageous behavior continues I will revoke your membership. This community was formed to add to our enjoyment of NASCAR racing and none of us will tolerate those kinds of behavior.I hope that everyone enjoys Nascar Nuts as much as I do and keeps coming back and inviting your friends to join as well. Have a great day everyone.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation,
Nick Nascarcdavis57 on August 20, 1999 2 of 2
Just thought I personally needed to come back here to an old post. Sometimes "sayin it" is a lot easier than "livin it". I'll try harder.
| Congratulations to Dale Jarrett!
From: jeanettetx Posted: August 7, 1999 What a great race! Only two cautions. With a slight brush with the wall
early in the race, Dale Jarrett, not phased by it, wins the 1999 Brickyard
400 in impressive style. Kudos!

I'm not a big DJ fan - but dang! He stamped "I'm the one to beat" all over the race and the 1999 season. Nobody but nobody could touch him today. I think he just kissed that wall to tell everyone - "I'm here - get outta my way!"Nick_Nascar on August 8, 1999 2 of 4
It was a very impressive run by the man out in front today. I do believe that we are about to see Ford take home another championship. DJ is working hard to earn his first and you know that Robert Yates is getting ready to jump up and down with joy. It's been a while since Davey got him his last championship.racin-nut on August 8, 1999 3 of 4
davey didn't win a championship......kulwicki beat him out that year and he died while making a run for it the following year....correct me if i am wrongNick_Nascar on August 8, 1999 4 of 4
You are most probably right. I was having that thought right after I clicked the "create" button but I knew that if I were wrong someone would correct me. *smile* And anyway, he deserved one. Guess I was giving him and honorary one.

Sorry about that Lisa. I haven't been able to get into the chat room for a while. I've got some problem with my computer that won't let it load, but as soon as I can get it figured out I usually open the chat room when I come in here at night. I'm almost always here or at least online after about 10:30 pm central time till at least 1 or 2. It's been a while since we've had a scheduled chat time, but I would love to get them going again.Would like for everyone to let me know what times are best for them and then I can schedule some different chat times.

until then we could all get on icq...there's a thoughtNick_Nascar on August 14, 1999 14 of 18
icq can work too. But Racin-nut, you need to get your brother to get it as well. I have just spent over an hour tonight trying different things to let me into the chat room here all with no luck. It used to work perfectly fine, so I don't know what I did to mess that up. I'm waiting for a response on that from the webmaster as well. Hope fully they can help get things worked out. And I'm going to go and add all who have icq#'s listed to my list now.cdavis57 on August 16, 1999 15 of 18
Hey guys. I downloaded ICQ. Been suffering a little "Web Burnout syndrome" - but I'll get it installed this week. - I'll let you know my number then.Nick_Nascar on August 16, 1999 16 of 18

Take care until next time

I'm glad to see our new members getting ICQ. I still am unable to get into our chat room here and have not found anyone yet that can help me. I do fear it is something wrong with my computer because I am experiencing the same thing with other chat rooms online. If anyone knows anything about JAVA and thinks they can help me please let me know. That seems to be the problem. Lots of JAVA stuff is just not loading and running. Thanks to all of you great people. :o)

Thanks for info NN. I will be sure to watch. While I am an Earnhardt fan - I DO try to be objective too. (hey I didn't like it when Dale got into Benson last week). Either way - Earnhardt won 3 of the 4 races - so it will be real difficult for me to say he did not Earn the champshionship.
Nick_Nascar on August 10, 1999 2 of 2
The championship is earned by points not by wins. You just let me know what you think after you watch it. It is very clear, heck, even Benny Parsons or DW, whichever one it was that called the race made several comments about it.

Hey folks we are growing ever so slowly....we would love to see all 100+ members join our sister community also...it is a great addition to this great community and has alot more photos to enjoy that couldn't possibly be put on this site due to limited space availability and is recognized and supported by our great administrators...if we can get more involvement I will put more effort in adding even more photos throughout 30 + years of racing photos and can more than likely handle most requests as you can see for yourself...and we have some great photos of bodies front and rear views, fallen heros, forgotten tracks, trivia, memorable races and crashes, all types of racing with something sure to bring smiles, memories, and debates

Welcome DJ. Hope you enjoy your time here as much as the rest of us do. Looking forward to getting to know you and all of our new members much better. Feel free to explore and add your comments to the ongoing discussions. Even revive some of the old ones if you like. I'm sure we all have more to say on most of those subjects anyway.cdavis57 on August 12, 1999 3 of 7
Hey DJ - welcome - as far as DJ and the Brickyard, well I think your guy said it all - with his actions, instead of his words! I'm and Earnhardt fan (please do not throw anything at the monitor) - but there are very few drivers I don't like - in fact there are none that I dislike.DJ's race at the Brickyard - one word - Domination, just like Michigan earlier. (Actually I was at MIS back when he won his very first NASCAR event - edged out Davey Allison by a bumper). There for a while I kept saying - DJ? aw, he's an ok driver, but not a great one. Boy has he made a fool outta me! I think more than the total domination he's shown - is the consistancy. Only 2 races outta the top 10? and none after the 3rd race of the season - WOW!!!!!
jen021072 on August 12, 1999 4 of 7
Hey DJ! Welcome, from one new member to another.
DJ had an awesome race on Saturday. Who else could brush the wall and still pull off the win? I'm a Gordon fan myself (ok, the booing can stop at anytime now :) )
but I always enjoy a good race. I look forward to talking with ya.WHevener on August 12, 1999 5 of 7

From: cdavis57 Posted: August 11, 1999 We have been very luck to have so many new members join us here at NASCAR Nuts lately. Some of you older members I'm sure are very familiar with a bunch of those "Error" messages - for you newer folks - You are doing NOTHING WRONG. Being quite familiar with managing a bunch of servers and a network
- I thought I'd take a moment to fill in a few blanks. First - Excite communities
normally allow 10 megabytes of space for each community - Nick Nascar is
working diligently with the Excite administrators to get us some more room
(lets face it - we are a VERY active bunch of folks here).
The bottom line: Sometimes you may get really goofy messages (URL not found, Server too busy, Unable to find site) - DON'T DISPARE - STICK WITH US! Sometimes you'll see the same thing listed 2 times, Don't get mad at your computer, don't get mad at the Internet - be patient, and keep stopping in - you'll find it well worth your time- I promise! |
Nick_Nascar on August 11, 1999 1 of 3
Thanks CD for the words of wisdom. As CD said, the people at excite are working hard to keep us up and running without error, but it happens. If you will bear with it I believe in the end you will find it well worth your time.Shoot, I myself responded to a discussion just a few minutes ago and when I finally got my computer to do something I noticed I had posted the same comment 7 times. If that happens just check the box next to all but one of them and then click "delete checked items". The extras will go away. Have a great time everyone.
cdavis57 on August 12, 1999 2 of 3
Also - sometime it helps (at least for me it works) - if the whole thing just seems like it's "stalled" and not doing anything - hit the "Stop" button - wait a second - then click on where you were going again.Kinda like 8 lanes of traffic trying to merge into 1 lane to get through a tunnel (we have those in PA). Anyway - maybe hitting the stop, and retrying will get you a better place in line (so to speak)
jen021072 on August 13, 1999 3 of 3
Using the stop button and then trying again works for me too. Usually that's all it takes to get in. I guess we're just such a popular group that everyone is trying to get here at the same time! :)

Rusty did a heck of a job today. You gotta give credit where it's due. Good luck to everyone.jen021072 on August 14, 1999 5 of 13
yeah,yeah,yeah.... crusty wallbanger (just joking guys) took the pole, but don't forget who won the Glen the last two years. #24. I'm not sure if he can do it again, but I do have to give kudos to Boris Said for that great qualifying run!Nick_Nascar on August 15, 1999 6 of 13
Yes, Boris did well in qualifying. He usually does that at a road course, but he has never figured out how to keep a Cup car running to finish a race. Ron Fellows is the guy you should look to for a surprise on Sunday. Never know, he may just notch his first Winston Cup victory.racin-nut on August 15, 1999 7 of 13

Fellows is always a good choice when it comes to a road course. There is no one better than him at that sort of racing. It is amazing what he can do there.cdavis57 on August 17, 1999 9 of 13
Saw an interview (RPN 2-Night, NASCAR Garage???) - but he (Fellows) said he would LOVE to go Winston Cup full time - be a great addition!!Nick_Nascar on August 17, 1999 10 of 13
Just read the chat transcript from Ron's chat at NASCAR Online and he said that he has other commitments this season. Some Busch stuff with Nemechek's team and some Truck races, including Texas in October. I'm anxious to get another chance to see Ron run in the trucks. That's what he needs is the oval experience. I don't really think that we will ever see him run full-time Winston Cup but we will see him run some more and I believe that we will see him with at least one Cup victory before it's all said and done.racin-nut on August 18, 1999 11 of 13

Granted - Fellows isn't ready at this point for full time WC. You're right - needs a LOT of experience yet on the ovals, but I saw a natural talent there - and I think with the right training he could some year be a contender with the big boys. Glad to hear he has some things lined up with Bush and Truck; although, I don't catch as many Bush as WC (and fewer yet of the trucks) - I will keep an eye open for him. I was really impressed with him (had really taken little notice of 'em til NN or someone mentioned him before the race) - I watched what he did - I liked it!Nick_Nascar on August 18, 1999 13 of 13
But Fellows is not spring chicken and if he is going to make any kind of mark in Cup then he has to get going rather quickly. I don't believe that we will ever see him in cup full-time, but we will see some more of him in the future and somewhere other than on a road course.
